A beautiful day, sun up and shining and the waves flowing smoothly. The perfect day for beach-going... Not just for humans either. Despite the perfect atmosphere, a little boy, probably about three or four years old sat crying in the sand, hand outstretched. If one were to follow his point, it would lead their eye to a dark form trotting steadily up the sandy turf. A tall, black dog moved smoothly, a half eaten hotdog clamped in his grinning jaws. That had been too easy. Human pups are so oblivious to everything but then they get mad when you take advantage.
Pausing, the brute bent his head, gobbling up the tasty treat in three or four bites before moving on. that's the problem with human cooking; not anywhere near filling. That had been the doberman's tenth dog that afternoon and he still had plenty of room in his ravenous stomach. Sapphire gaze scowered the land some more, searching for their next victim.

Though most cats disliked water, a calico cat walking along the beach was one exception. She strutted along, her mottled (sp?) head held high her delicate nose sniffing the air curiously...
She stopped straight in her tracks when she noticed a doberman walking towards her. Normally, the cat didn't mind dogs, some of her best friends were dogs, but strange dogs, well, she didn't know if they appricated cats or not...So she stopped, not seasing her dark glare at the dog, unsure of what to do.

Azure gaze fell upon a little girl soon enough. She was sitting with her back to him on a bright pink towel, an ice cream cone held out to the side as she played with a friend. Perfect. Grinning to himself, the doby stalked over, licking his narrow muzzle hopefully. As he neared, the girl turned about, noticing his interest in her ice cream and staring wide-eyed. A gorgeous dog indeed, but Decadence hardly noticed his charming appearance himself. Whistling like a typical two-legger, the girl held out her ice cream hoping to draw the dog near. The doberman didn't buy it. Snorting, he turned swiftly, moving on without looking back.
Though he didn't hate humans, the stray never totally enjoyed their presence anymore. He had at one time, long ago but that was then. That was before everything. Growling, the bull increased stride, furrowing his brow in an attempt to hold back the memories. No need to dwell upon the past, it won't notice you've forgotten it.
A glance up brought all one hundred pounds of dog to a halt. A cat stood only a foot or so away from him, staring at him strangely. Now, he hadn't stopped because he hated cats or liked to chase them or anything. Personally, he couldn't care less. Until now, he'd never actually met a cat. No, he ceased his movements because he found staring uncomfortable. Rather, being stared at. Raising an eyebrow and trying not to look jittery, the dog lifted his lowered dome, looking as confident as possible but saying nothing.

The calico noticed the doberman lower his dome and let out a tiny sigh. It was somewhat safe now. She walked up to him, her strange teal pools filled with curiousity. Sen was not one to be subtle, to say the least.
"And you would be?" she mewed curiously up at the much larger dog. Sen was also not one to fear anything once they stopped what they were doing, even dogs. She was strange that way.

Watching the smaller animal approach, the doberman felt a bit uncomfortable at the prospect of social interaction with another species. He had talked to a cat only once before, and it wasn't really talking, more like shouting insults to each other and a desperate chase through the alleyways. But the dog stood poised, ready of anything, if a little nervous about it. When it offered a greeting, the brute cleared his throat hoarsely.
"Decadence." Three syllables were all that needed to be said. The dog's voice was deep, smooth and calm and the word rolled off his tongue without a stutter or waver.

"Sen" the cat replied, offering the dog, Decadence as he was apparently called a name in exchange for his. Her voice was soft, delicte, flowing in a way. She looked up at the much larger dog with no fear what-so ever. Now that the dog was speaking to her, she knew that she could get a way out of anything. Sen was not scared of anything, nor was she ever uncomfortable with anything. Another sign of her strangeness. Back when she had been thrown out onto the streets, it was a horse and an old mutt who had raised her. She hadn't feared them, and because of that, she feared nothing.

The doberman nodded slowly, filing the name elsewhere in his mind where it wouldn't be forgotten. Names were more important than most thought. It symbolized whether or not you remembered who someone was and what they did for you. It was the first offering of respect and a small token of trust. Something to be kept rather than thrown away.
Lowering his head, the doby was about to speak to the cat when a human tossed a hotdog his way, apparently done with it. "Here ya go doggy." Though still not one to take from humans, the dog ate the hotdog anyway. Mostly because the opportunity called for it. he was hungry and this man threw him some food, 1+1=2. Or, as the human male he had lived with put it, does a bear dump in the woods? Though decadence still didn't understand that one...
Dragging one half of the partially eaten meat over to the cat, the dog offered it to her with little interest. "Here." Seemed like a nice gesture...
